This month’s Ellen Hutson Pin-Sights Challenge was just that — challenging! I was definitely out of my “comfort zone” with this particular color palette. As always, the Pin-Sights Challenge projects need to be designed with “Essentials by Ellen” products, and using the colors that appear in the photo.
Ellen Hutson’s “Leading Ladies – Baker Lady” took center stage on this birthday card. I wanted to create a bakery scene, but not your typical pristine retail bake shop. The “Purple Passion Bakery” (established in 1965 during the heart of the “Flower Power” era) showcases “Baker Lady’s” adorable, but messy baking practices, with flour EVERYWHERE!
I created the front of the card with a panel of silver foiled cardstock from DCWV. I taped down MFT’s “English Brick Wall” stencil over it, and then spread a layer of violet metallic embossing paste by “Viva Décor” across it.
While the walls of the “Purple Passion Bakery” were drying, I created the store front counter and the display shelves with Simon Says Stamp’s woodgrain cardstock stained with Ranger Distress Ink in “Tea Dye” and foam mounted them to the purple brick wall.
The Baker Lady and all her desserts, breads, and baking tools were colored with Copic Sketch Markers, die cut out, and then adhered in place. I used Copic Sketch Markers E21, RV17, B26, B04, W3, and W5 to match the Pin-Sights Challenge’ s color palette.
I stamped and heat embossed “Flour Power” on her apron and used this same Brutus Munroe “Alabaster” embossing powder to create the messy “flour everywhere” look in her shop.
After adhering the purple panel to an A2 card base, I stamped the inside of the card in purple ink with “You Make Life Sweeter,” a sentiment from the stamp set and accented it with a frosting bag, a stamp also included in the set.
I hope you enjoyed today’s card.
