A gift card is a popular choice for birthday gifts these days; but what could be better than to showcase it inside the birthday card itself? The recipient wouldn’t dare throw this card away (especially since the gift card is “locked” inside)! LOL!
This month’s MFT Birthday Project Challenge featured shaker cards, so with this in mind and a tutorial I saw on the MFT blog by Inge Groot, I decided to create a gift card/birthday/shaker combo card for a very special recipient who deserved a little shopping spree.
Using the easy-to-follow cutting and scoring directions listed in the tutorial, I used card stock from MFT’s “Nightshift Blue” and the “Proper Pinstripe” 6×6 patterned paper pack for this project. All of the sentiments and images for this card were from MFT’s “Gift Card Greetings,” “Pure Innocence Birthday Girl,” “Interactive Labels,” stamp sets, and MFT‘s “Gift Card Window & Frame” and “Essential Sentiment Rip Strip” dies.
MFT also offers a gift card pouch that fits perfectly inside the die opening. After inserting the gift card inside, I filled the pouch with navy and silver sequins and seed beads and sealed it closed on the back with a piece of white card stock to create the shaker effect I was looking for.
I colored the “Pure Innocence Birthday Girl” image with Copic markers and paper pieced her dress with a gray checked pattern from the MFT’s “Homespun Gingham” 6×6 paper pack and her purse with more of the “Proper Pinstripe” paper. I die cut her with the coordinating die and foam mounted her to the left edge of the cover flap.
I stamped the same image on the inside of the card and added a sentiment from the stamp set.
It would probably kill me to follow through on those “tear” instructions if I were the recipient of this card, but, in the end, if you want to go shopping, that’s what you gotta do!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card!

I really love your cards! I still haven’t tore mine open, it’s just too nice! Haha.
Thank you! Maybe you can just bring it to the mall and they can scan the gift card through the shaker pouch! LOL!
