Personalizing Birthday Cards with Alpha and Number Dies | Giveaway!

Hi Everyone, it’s Priscilla here. Today I thought I’d take a break from Holiday cards to show you two cards I made for recents birthdays for friends and family members. What’s unique about them is that they are personalized to the recipients using alphabet dies to spell out their names, and in my first case, adding numeric dies to give a “shout out” to the BIG 4-0 birthday year the recipient was celebrating . Both dies set are from Kat Scrappiness. And stay tuned. At the end of this blog post, you can find out how to win a set of Kat’s “Condensed Number” dies.

Let’s get started! For my first card, I used the Kat ScrappinessCondensed Lowercase Alphabet Dies” and the “Condensed Number Dies.

Working with alpha and number dies can be tricky in terms of aligning them on your card front perfectly straight. “Purple Tape” to the rescue!

I spelled out the recipient’s name and birthday year on black card stock using the ruler that came with my glass craft mat and then quickly taped them together and down onto the card stock using iCraft’s  1/2 inch “Purple Tape.” What a lifesaver this tape is for doing tasks such as this!

Then I ran the card front, purple tape and all, through my Big Shot machine. I “puzzle-pieced” the letters and numbers I die cut out right back into their respective openings on the card front, as I was going for a 3-D look with the buffalo check patterned paper pictured below becoming the top layer of all of them.

Because the Purple Tape is removable, I was able to pick up the dies, still strung together, and place them on the buffalo check patterned paper next.

After all the letters and numbers were layered and inserted back in the card front, I moved on to the the final embellishments on the card. I used a rose stem die from my stash and the “Happy” from the Kat Scrappiness “Happy Birthday Brush Script Word and Sentiment Die”, cut out of gold metallic card stock. Kat‘s “Sparkling Clear Droplets” added some “dew” to my rose petals.

My second card features a beautiful patterned paper behind the alpha die cuts.

I followed the same procedure to align the letters to the front of the card.

Then I simply adhered the floral patterned paper behind the wood-grain top layer and then adhered both layers to a red card base.

To finish, I white heat-embossed the “Happy Birthday” sentiment and added some of Kat’s “Red Flower Sprinkles” to the card.
